IoP PostDoc Committee

We, the Post-Docs of the Institute of Psychiatry, would like to express our opposition to the proposed 120 academic redundancies at the Health Schools of King’s College London including the Schools of Biomedical Science, Medicine, and the Institute of Psychiatry. It is said that these redundancies are planned in order to compensate for financial deficits, which have occurred due to reductions in the UK public funding for "capital projects" at Universities such as new buildings and infrastructure.

King’s College London is one of the top research universities worldwide with dedicated scientists using innovative science to tackle some of the biggest biomedical challenges. In addition to its impressive research credentials it also teaches and trains some of the most promising future scientists in this country and indeed the world.

These cuts, the second round within five years, threaten to cause a brain drain at King’s College London, leaving staff demoralised and putting off prospective students and academics from working here. The cuts will also jeopardize important, life-changing research projects. The academics at King’s College London are not responsible for the financial trouble of King’s College London and we believe they should not pay for it.

We would also like to express our support to affected staff and commend the activities of the anti-redundancy student campaign.
